VATICAN—The Holy See announced in its daily bulletin today that Archbishop Sarah Mullally, current Anglican archbishop of Canterbury, will be taking Cardinal Arthur Roche’s spot as head of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. This comes in the wake of news that Roche will be leaving that position following his 76th birthday, and potentially taking on different responsibilities.

“The move makes sense,” said English Vatican journalist Jim Piper, “Leo is clearly showing continuity with the goals of Pope Francis. One of his goals was to have a Brit at the head of the DDW, and so Leo has continued that.” Piper added, “This move also shows continuity in allowing women to function as heads of Vatican Dicasteries.”

While some, like Piper, may view the move as continuous with Francis, the Una Voce, an international organization that promotes the Traditional Latin Mass say that Leo is “doing something different.” Their statement released earlier this morning states, “This is clearly a favorable move for those who love the Traditional Mass and Sacraments. Mullally and the whole Church of England have far more traditional liturgies than most Sunday Novus Ordo Masses said each week. We are now beginning to see a different side of the Holy Father. ‘Leo the Traditionalist’ has shown his face in moving the female Archbishop to the DDW, and we await the results of her reign.”

Una Voce ended the statement saying, “long live the queen.”
