VATICAN—Pope Leo was reportedly shocked Monday morning to learn that he would not be overturning “Traditionis Custodes,” Pope Francis’ motu proprio that placed restrictions on the Latin Mass. “I just don’t get it,” said Pope Leo during a press conference earlier today, “why would I not do that?”

The Holy Father reportedly only found out about his own position on the matter when scrolling through emails on Monday morning, “I really have tried to get off of any social media over the past year to avoid being influenced. A bunch of old friends sent me this article asking, ‘Is it true? Is it true?’. I just replied, ‘well, I don’t know, I’ll have to ask the Holy Father about that!’”

The article to which the Holy Father was referring was an interview with Cardinal Arthur Roche, current prefect for the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments (DDW) and The Tablet. In the interview, Roche told reporters “Pope Leo is not going to change Traditionis Custodes.”

“That’s a darn shame!” exclaimed Pope Leo to confused reporters. “I thought I always had a bit more of an open mind than that, but I guess not.”

At the end of the press conference, a reporter asked Leo about Roche’s future, as his term is up at the DDW. Leo said, “Cardinal Roche intends to become either a delegate to the continent of Antarctica, a pastor in the slums in Haiti, or a circus chaplain. This is what he really wants to do, and he has expressed as much to me, and so we will be deciding based on those options.”
